• The theoretical section consists of a set of notes containing the theory applicable for this course.  We do, however, assume that, as you are a recently admitted conveyancer or aspire to become one, you possess a basic understanding of the theory of conveyancing.

• This section serves as background only and will not be discussed during lectures.

• Register early so that you get your notes well in advance.  This will enable you to refresh your theoretical knowledge before the start of the course.

Module 1: Conveyancing Theory

• General background to conveyancing

• Purpose, formalities and provisions of an agreement of sale

• Analysis of a deed of transfer, including the purpose of the deed of transfer

• Overview of the opening of a sectional title register

• Discussion of section 15B(3)(a) Conveyancer's certificate and section 15B(3)(c) Affidavit by the developer of the Sectional Titles Act

• Documents to be lodged at the deeds registry

• Theory on transfer procedures to follow in a conveyancing practice from the opening of the file to its closure

• Discussion of the different types of power of attorney, including a full analysis of a power of attorney to transfer land

Module 2: Practical case study on registering a deed of transfer

• Receipt of instruction and opening of a file
